that's what I'm talking about....

yeah
that's what I'm talking about

the last cup of coffee
fills your cup to the rim
waking up early
hitting it hard at the gym

yeah
that's what I'm talking about

feeling it on Friday
sinking every shot
knowing Who to thank for everything ya' got

yeah
that's what I'm talking about

chasing the dream
and blazing a path
it all adds up
you do the math

waking up thankful
falling asleep at peace
knowing you're on a roll
that just won't cease

yeah
that's what I'm talking about

hugs out the door
kisses on the way back in
they're always glad you're home however far you've been

lessons to be learned
challenges we overcome
many as a family
all alone for only some

yeah
that's what I'm talking about

listening more than you speak
hearing all that's said
knowing what's important
clear by where you head

focus on the now
plan for what's comes after
there will be time for tears
but now there's only laughter

yeah
that's what I'm talking about

the bend

'When do we get to the fun part', I heard my son say.
'When does hard stuff end, when will the road start to bend'
'When do we get to the fun part, when can I run and play.'

It resonated with me like the vibe of a thousand Gregorian chants.
Over and over it played, in my head, on my mind, in the air above my chi.
So I had to ask myself in quite the interrogative way,
'When DO we get to the fun part, when do we run and play?'

It stuck with me even as I moved on throughout my gotta-go day.
Pushing, reaching, making things click; often enough to make a grown man sick.
Balance the priorities, spin all the plates, fit in some fun there has to be a way.

Several days later, while sweating and stressing, it came in a flash.
Why fret and run all day long when a destination has not even been picked.
There has to be answers along this journey of lessons that last our whole lives.
There must be a way to even the strain, minimize the pain, all without hives.

Can it be this simple, there has to be a catch.
All I have to do is make time to let it all go.
Be still, meditate, pray. Throw off the lock, undo the latch.
When all is silent and there us a complete lack of focus,
The path becomes clearer, the true priorities come into view.

I'm not a preacher or a mystic, this is no hocus-pocus.
Zero out in order to allow yourself the chance to really zero in.
Unplug, log off, do whatever it takes to keep all wolves at bay.
Be with yourself, without any motive, and find out where you've been.

When do we get to the fun part? You may already know.
But you must take the time to ask yourself the question.
Giving the answer a chance to come when it is so.
When does the hard stuff end, could it be just around the bend?

What if this is the fun part, and we forgot to run and to play.
If I don't show my boys the way, what  kind of message does it send........
....around the bend.

And there it was..

And there it was,
And here I am.
It all looked familiar.
Yet nothing sinked in.

I know where I am,
Everyone knows where I'm headed.
But the guide post are vague,
The atmosphere doesn't seem quite right.

They told me there was a curve involved,
I'm second guessing whether there is a learning to be had.
Friendly familiar voices derive from diverse directions.
Many of them offer contextual advice.

Nefariousness runs rampant as complications collide.
Tickled by the randomness of serendipity I press on to reap the unsewn.
Few will follow, many will lead.
Diverse beginnings allow the birth of unseen horizons.

Enjoy the ride my fellow fun seekers.......it about to get quite interesting.

repetitive analysis

she once said that what I was doing
was 'just like meditation, only more painful'

same source, different day;
poetry can be similar to journaling, only more wistful.

a grain of salt could come in handy,
but a smart remark would be more helpful.

often it is the implied reverberation
that sends a conversation over the edge.

as figured fears work their way into our psyche.
so do our commitments often become the wedge.

While a chipping hammer was at one time adequate,
today I am reaching for the sledge.

passion scatters amongst the dust,
shedding darkness one cold layer at a time.

adherence to muted principles leads one to reconsider the source of all social gluten.

infused with creative drippings that motivate muscle, positive harmonic imbalances,

desiring only to share enough to get others thinking, talking, taking action,

questioning, and impulsively digesting their own chaotic whimsy.

reviews are the exception. No alteration of content is allowed. If you enjoyed this book, then
encourage your friends to purchase their own copy. They can afford it.
Your support and respect for the property of this author is appreciated.
This is a work of creative non-fiction. Names, characters, businesses, places, events and
incidents are most likely convenient hallucinations, but also could very well be the products of
the author’s warped imagination. In either case, all information is used in a fictitious manner and
not intended to replace history books, encyclopedias, or one’s individual responsibility to use
their head for more than a hat rack. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, or actual
events could be coincidental, but I doubt it.
**The thoughts, words, and ideas contained in this work have not been homogenized for the
masses. While it is not my intention to be labeled as a writer of ‘Adult Content’, nor do I feel that
anything you are about to read is harmful or profane. However, I do come from a long line of
sailors. The bottom line / bottom line is that if your children are required to use the word bottom
when referring to their backside (as is mandated in my house) then you may want to consider
reading your child a Dr. Seuss book and putting them to bed prior to scrolling to the next page**
This serial anthology gets its root from a sister series, ‘Under the Gun’ which originally appeared
on the blog b2publishing. Both ‘UTG’ and ‘ATG’ are extreme forms of experimental literature
where the content is published immediately after creation. One quick run of spell check is the
only thing between the pontificator’s thoughts and the reader’s mind. There is little editing,
absolutely no safety net, and no lawyers have been harmed in the process (to date). You are
about to read the next installment of ‘ATG’ which will surely spur you to become a follower of
b2, or the member of a support group.

After the Gun

Episode 3
‘the anatomy of a toothache’
‘Look on yonder misty mountain. See the young monk meditating rhododendron forest’
– Donovan Phillips Leitch

Psychosis has its advantages. ‘Normal’ people often go to extreme lengths in order to

escape reality, enjoy sublime rushes of adrenaline, and fall into excitement riddled stupors
of mad joy. I get to do it all the time. Drug free.
I stopped taking my prescription weeks ago. Not sure why. Part of me just wanted to
know what I was running from. Sometimes numbing the pain just makes us more numb to
the reality we so deeply crave. ‘Pain is just a feeling’, he always told me. My experience has
been that the absence of pain does not necessarily equate to joy. Rather, feeling sun on a
cheek, even as it slowly radiates the skin; hearing another’s voice, that is incessantly
screaming profanities into your tear strewn face; knowing that all you are hearing is lies,
when all you ever wanted was to show that you care; all of these are overdue, over-rated,
and often replicated.
Things are going to be different this time. I have a plan. My resolve is solid, my
determination strong. I see the path before me, now I just have to make that first step. Make
the plan, work the plan. Make the plan, work the plan. Make the plan, see something shiny,
divert the plant, regret changing the plan, beat myself up and lose sleep because of the plan,
start working the plan again. Make the plan, work the plan. Make the plan, work the

plan…………….

(you have just been exposed to a heaping helping of the serial anthology known as ‘After the
Gun’. Do not be alarmed if you feel different after reading this. It is not necessarily the words,
but more that passage of time that inspires us to change, as well as causing extremely long hairs
to begin growing out of our ears. – b2)

The Process......

Join me now as the process begins its journey towards the penultimate destination.
Now would be a good time to bury all misconceptions you my still be harboring and get down to making the magic happen.
Don't kid yourself into thinking that showing signs of fear and self doubt will be tolerated at any level.
Feel free to amortize emotions using a sliding scale, denote any subordinate variances on the exit survey found in the arm rest storage compartment.
Morphemic images continue to cloud judgments while inconveniences rule the airwaves.
Conflicting transparencies fall flat to the floor with passion often reserved for collegiate humor.

"For many people, simplifying their lives meant selling one of their lake (or beach) homes,...........these days simplification means renting a 1200 sq ft home with no basement, no attic, and a shed that you can actually walk into." - b2

A special interview with b2, the pontificator at large........

(the following conversation took place during a rarely granted interview with the reclusive pontificator known as b2. On plastic patio chairs overlooking the Piedmont forest he calls home we listened to the almost jungle like calls of sunset birds while Donovan sang of his friend, and mentor, Mac MacLeod softly in the background. We share a cheap cigar with plastic tip while he was busy carving a birdhouse on his back porch.)

Interviewer: What ya' making there, captain?

b2: This here is a Trenholm treasure. Ever since my family was led here to the plateau of four seasons we have really enjoyed walking down the gravel road that winds from Mountain Lodge to Connemara. When our eyes are not fixed on the horizon, or scouring the woods for bear, we are usually looking on the road for Trenholm treasures. Not quite one year into our adventure we have found over 20 different items that include turnbuckles, busted padlocks, and various pieces of rusted horse tack. I like taking these little glimpses of history and assembling them into my version of country folk art.

Interviewer: On our walk earlier I could see a glimpse of Mountain Lodge through the trees. Tell me what you know about this home and the impact its proximity has had on your writings.

b2: Very early on I felt that this house played a part in how my bride and I were led here from suburban Philadelphia. When I found our cabin on the Internet a year ago we had no idea that it was right across the road from the first permanent residence in Flat Rock. Charles and Susan Baring from Charleston built the home in the style of an English country estate. As was the tradition of the day they built a private chapel on their property which later became St. John in the Wilderness, which is now my family's place of worship.

Interviewer: At what point did you receive inspiration to write you poem about this historic chapel ( St. John in the Wilderness )?

b2: Shortly after I moved this magical place I had the opportunity to tour the house (borderline illegal I might add). The week prior I had read 15 books from the local library that made mention of this family and the impact they had, and still have, on the residence of this community. It touched me in a very special way and I felt compelled to articulate the sense of awe and respect that I have gained for the early settlers and current residents of Flat Rock.

Interview: And the day after you wrote the poem.....

b2:...ah, yes. The next day during the church service a young lady stood up during the announcements. She shared that the deadline for submissions to the First Annual St. John in the Wilderness Arts Festival had been extended. I knew then why I had written the poem, and in many ways, why I had ended up in Flat Rock.

Interviewer: Pretty heavy stuff. I understand that beyond being able to share your written work, you will also have a chance to read your poem to the community.

b2: The only thing that jives me more than writing is being able to share it by reading it aloud. On April 9th, the day of my birth, I will join a much more accomplished group of performance artists so that some of the folks that inspire my musings can hear a rendition of this particular poem direct from my lips. I am truly honored and could not imagine a better birthday present. It's worth noting that Susan Baring was also a poet, and I've often wondered would it would have been like to share some tea and conversation with this very storied couple.

Interviewer: You mentioned that your road also leads to the home of another famous author who called Flat Rock his home.

b2: In 1945 Carl Sandburg moved his family to the former residence of first Secretary of the Treasury for the Confederate States of America, Christopher Memminger. Around here though, his wife was the star with her prize winning goats.

Interviewer: How do you feel about that?

b2:What? You mean being overshadowed by your wife? I don't have FEEL anything about it,... I live it. And if you ask me again 'how I feel about something' you're gonna get a nasty-gram from my very competent, yet jealous, therapist.

Interviewer: What are you working on currently?

b2: Well right now I have five long term projects but two that will be coming to fruition in the next couple of weeks. I am putting together a collection of my most inspiring prose, Find YOUR Mountaintop, uncommon poetry for everyday folks... . It is also time for me to release the final three chapters of my serial anthology, Under the Gun .

Interviewer: Now UTG, as your readers commonly call it, is a bit experimental is it not?

b2: Quite so. Every episode of UTG is written in twenty minutes, or less, with no research or preparation. I read over the previous chapter as a review of where I left off, then wail away on the keyboard incessantly until my eyes start to bleed. A quick spell check (which does not do much for my take on the English langige) and it is immediately released for public ridicule.

Interviewer: The content sounds autobiographical.

b2: It's not a journal nor is it a memoir. Having that said, you should remember the words of Mark Twain, "There is no such thing as a new idea. It is impossible. We simply take a lot of old ideas and put them into a sort of mental kaleidoscope. We give them a turn and they make new and curious combinations. We keep on turning and making new combinations indefinitely; but they are the same old pieces of colored glass that have been in use through all the ages."

Interviewer: Anything else you would like to share with your readers.

b2: Yes. A table at Jongo Java . I will take an Americano with a cinnamon stick. And oh yeah, don't forget to bring your own cup.

(have a question for the pontificator that was not addressed in this interview? Go to b2 Publishing's Facebook page and let him have it.)
